What exactly is
an Ebook? -
Previously there were hard covers, trade paperbacks,
mass market paperbacks and audio books.
The growth of technology
and the Internet and the birth of the Web has led to the
creation of a whole new industry in desktop publishing -
eBooks which is an abbreviation for "electronic books".
Electronic books are not
tangible objects that have physical weight. Simply
stated they are books that can be stored and distributed
electronically.
Alternatively one could
describe them as just ordinary books – not books the way
we are used to them being presented – but books designed
for reading on a computer screen.
And although they may
contain the same content as printed books, the author's
words are contained as a downloadable file, so reading
them usually requires both hardware and special
software.
Viewed from this
perspective, it seems that electronic books could be
akin to computer software and are neither book nor
software but rather a hybrid.
How do I open ZIP files?
-
If you are downloading an
eBook (or eBook customization package) in ZIP format,
you'll need to have a copy of WinZip to open the file.
You can download a free version of WinZip from
here.
Once you've downloaded the ZIP file, double-click the
icon to open it. Select all the files in the WinZip
window and click 'Extract'. Choose a folder to extract
the file(s) to. Go to that folder on your PC and
double-click the icon to open the file.
How are eBooks
delivered? -
Once your secure payment
has been authorized and received, you'll be re-directed
to a private web page where your eBook will be ready for
immediate download.
Alternatively you may
receive a download link by eMail usually within 12-24
hours after the payment has been received.
How long does it take to
download an eBook? -The speed of the
download depends largely on the size of the eBook in
question and the speed of your Internet connection.
Typically, the download should take between 1 and 6
minutes.
